sunday morning came early. i suited up, wore my lucky panties, skirt, socks, bra, shirt, sunglasses, racepack, and downed a couple of vicodin. note: i am in no way condoning or promoting the use of painkillers to achieve long distance runs. it's naughty. it's dangerous. don't do it.
most people there were running the half marathon, and everyone stayed together for the first 13 miles around ocean drive and back to first beach. all the half finishers ran through the gate, got their blanket, got their medals, all high-fived one another, cheered, and the lonely marathoners pressed on through all that pomp largely ignored by the crowd doing the merrymaking. i didn't want their attention anyway. i was hurting. i tossed back another two vicodin, and scooted on. i'm almost sure i achieved negative splits. the second half went by quickly. i never suffered, i never hit the wall, and i was pretty oblivious to how poorly i was doing compared to the last marathon- 4hrs and 20 mins is 16 minutes slower... granted, i was injured and no one ever BQ'd on a torn meniscus. but i finished only slightly ahead of the middle of the pack and for that, i am satisfied.
i'm at the airport right now. i need to take this diamond ring off my engagement finger. there's a hot guy who just sat down in striking distance.
anyhow, the race was not a complete disaster on account of i had a really fun time, the run was great, and i finished.
oh, and i won't be able to run a single step until i have my torn meniscus fixed. that's annoying. might have surgery over christmas... the sooner the better, obviously.
