i did my 20 mile run yesterday.  me being me, i figured the best way to go about this was to down a bunch of caffeine and anti-inflammatory pain killers.  sweet.  no prob.  off i go...

it's exactly a 5.1 mile loop between my house, up touro street, down bellevue to bailey's, and back up coggleshall and spring.  thus returning back at touro, and ready to start the whole program again.

bear in mind i could have simply accomplished the same feat by doing two ocean drive circuits instead of 4 five mile loops.  but there was little more than an hour left of daylight by the time i gathered enough nerve to actually begin the whole fiasco.  literally.  it was a daylong internal conflict... a complete mindfuck and i had almost psyched myself out before i could inhale, exhale, and commit to the journey.  i tell myself before every run and every sail that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.  i think it helps that my brain is able to tell itself and the rest of my body that nothing remarkable ever comes easy, and "this is going to take a while".  once you subscribe to the notion that "this is going to be HARD.  and it is going to take a while"  you do meet with success.  and no surprise: it takes a long fucking while.  i don't quit until the job is done.  and that is how mom and dad raised me.  happily, i am ready to run this marathon.

aside from being a mentally and physically prepared runner, i am also a slightly injured one.  because while, i did not stop until i was finished the workout, i also did not stop when i realized my knee was hurting me.  wha wha whaaaah...  four weeks until the race, and i am icing my patellar tendon and wearing a strap on it 24/7...  it could be a game changing injury if i don't treat it right.  but i am.  and hopefully i'll be good as new in another 2 weeks or so of proper treatment, and not killing it on my remaining training runs.   hard time up and down stairs, but honestly i'm hoping i bounce back in less than a week.  i had a great pilates session today and i think i cannot abandon my pilates practicing.  which i've done for the last month.  usually when i start doing over 35 miles per week, i ditch the pilates out of laziness and lack of time... but it's really too important to let slip.   i'm a better runner when i'm beginning each day with an hour of some windsor pilates.  the rock hard glutes, back, and abs that result improves my posture and protects my body from injury.

last week, after completing 45 miles in 6 days, (including a 15 miler on feb 14th)  on the 7th day (sunday) i had the toughest ten mile race course i have ever run.  i told myself that i would treat it like the last training run of the week and take it easy.  well, i ended up PRing... beating my best BSR time by exactly 10 seconds.  that's a huge big deal, and i'm not even as jazzed as i should be about it.  this is because the BSR is a race i train HARD for.  and i embarrassed the shit out of my time without even trying.  i must have been a shitty runner all these years.  who knows.

well, goodnight.
