alright. AND SO i have a new, very comprehensive knee brace. like all things i own, it means business. and it's holding my patella in place resulting very little protest happening all up in the patellar tendon region. without it, sunday i ran 5, monday i ran 4, and tuesday i put the brace on and did 10. slow 10 but 10 nonetheless. i may have been limping, i may have been hobbling. passersby were probably having conversations like "look, an invalid is trying to escape from newport hospital. oh, honey maybe she needs help? should we stop and ask if she is ok?" but let's face it- can YOU run 10 miles right now? no? how about 5? no? 3? no? then how about shut up.
i'm resting now for another 10 tomorrow and perhaps a 15 or 18 this weekend. i'm gunning for 18 as the marathon is approaching, i'll need some recovery time between another long run and the 26.2..... after my 10 mi p/r fiasco at foxboro, in typical gigi fashion, i did not check myself before i wrecked myself. i went into the 20 mile long run after just 4 days without having done pilates or similar quad strengthening maneuvers.
it's a whole new game once you get into long distances... i complain about my quads not being strong enough, but obviously i put in 30-40 miles per week which is roughly two to three times the distance your average recreational jogger will and they're probably pleased with their bodies' performance. i'm noticing everything about my body change and take a different form as i go from 18-20 miles a week to 40-50 miles a week. mostly my hip joints feel stronger and more purposeful. my posture has been amazing and the way i feel in general is very lean and strong and powerful and for the first time almost flexible.
after this race i have to recover for the BSR before i can start training for my marathon(s) in the fall. fingers crossed i stay healthy.
