I am going on day 6  with no carbs and I can feel my tanks just sucking dry.  and if you know me at all, you know this is no fun and not a natural feeling for me.  i've gone from 122lbs to 117lbs in just this time.  which would be exciting news for someone trying to lose weight.  but i am not nor can i afford to.  so thank GOD this is the last day of this craziness and I can go back to quinoa and brown rice for the next three days before the race- and take on a few extra lbs in liquid fuel as well so i will be good and strong.  with all of the extra carbs i will take on thursday, friday, and saturday, some will be used as immediate fuel to make up for what i was lacking earlier this week, and the rest will go into storage for the race.  by starving myself of carbs, my body will know something is up, something big is about to happen and it will hold on to those glycogen stores for dear life.  (if i do not run, they will be converted to fat in a matter of days, and this is what happens to people who eat and do not work out properly)  my muscles and liver can store about 2,000 calories worth of these carbs, however around mile 18, my little tank will have run out of gas.  i need to consume sports drinks and bananas, and perhaps energy gels at every aid station along the route to give my body energy as i am burning through it all.  otherwise, it will start burning fat.   since i have very little fat, it will burn muscle.  no good.

my meals have pretty much consisted of lean chicken, tinned tuna fish, broccoli, raw almonds, and egg whites.  also, my captain (who i live with) makes me this great fruit smoothie using nonfat greek yogurt with all kinds of omega3 and flax seed oils.

i have not felt hungry or starving, but i'm noticing that parts of me are beginning to cave in and i have dark circles under my eyes.  not pretty.  i am very very lean, and my muscles are very apparent, and feel almost heavy.  i can imagine that this is what everyone on the atkins diet looks like.  (when i think of atkins diet, i chuckle to myself because it makes me think of Susan Atkins, and everyone wanting to eat like her)  also, there is this new diet fad sweeping through the "overweight, holier than thou, and desperately trying to be skinny" population like wildfire... the "paleo" diet- which also makes many grains and baked breads verboten.  this is because people who existed a million years ago didn't eat cake.  psssshhht.  that may be well and good for commoners who actually WERE paleolithic cave people, however I am a direct descendant of the Roman Gods and Goddesses themselves, and my people have been feasting on glorious confections for thousands upon thousands of years.  so such a ridiculous diet plan could not apply to me.  plus, i'd be goner in no time flat.

no, the marathon diet consists of eating three healthy, lowfat, balanced meals daily.  this is no new revelation.  while diet fads seem to work, (in my case, unintentionally) I don't recommend these lifestyles.  i recommend running, and not smashing entire pies down your face, and drinking alcohol in excess.  i recommend not smoking cigarettes.  and lastly, i recommend common sense.  because people tend to throw common sense out the door, and compensate by adding to the mix these ridiculous lifestyle changes to make up for the fact that they fucked up in all areas they should have been using common sense all along.

that said, i have about 13 hours left of this no-carb nonsense before i can start building my glycogen stores.  woohoo!  the hour is at hand....
