it's typically my policy to NOT run on the dock. me being me... tanglefoot over here, tend to make a mess out of things. cleats, hoses, power cords, dock boxes- all obstacles out to get you. i heard a heartbreaking tale of woe from my skipper a while back of a young woman and her fiance staying at this very marina- she went out for a run, was abducted by a local, stuffed in a car trunk, raped, and then stabbed 50 or so times with a screwdriver. mind you, she was 5 months pregnant at the time. that's low. i got to thinking- the world isn't all safe out there for us runners. especially us petite young female athletes. not by a long shot. we'd like to think or hope that it is. but we should always exercise the extremest of caution while running unfamiliar roads or trails. do your homework. ask locals, and plan a route ahead of time.
fortunately, this is a marina with almost a half mile long dock, and about 30 quarter mile finger piers- all cement. i ran eight miles tonight while never leaving the docks, and had a fantastic run. well worth it and looking forward to doing it again tomorrow.
