the white treadmill.

this was supposed to be a Tyler State Park morning, but our little trip was rescheduled for tomorrow.  i mounted ol' whitey (i'm in the habit of naming things after what color they are.  giving inanimate objects human names is just too unsettling for me)  and ran a swift 9.5 miles.

i had originally planned a ten miler, and i hit the "scan" button on the treadmill in order for the display to switch from time, to speed, to distance, etc... and when i did so, it shat the bed, an error message displayed, and i was left standing around like a hamster that didn't know how to work its wheel.  i panicked, let out a stream of obscenities in a most unprofessional manner, and my brother (who happened to be passing by) upon observing my disadvantage started yelling "GO RUN OUTSIDE!  GO RUN OUTSIDE!  TWO LAPS AROUND THE DRIVE!  HALF MILE!  GO!  GO!  GO!"

so out i went- in my t-shirt, white running skirt, and white compression socks.  i was a spectacle at best.

in short, dad ended up fixing my busted old running machine (25 years old)  and it will probably be serviceable by tomorrow morning- when we're meant to be at Tyler.

I should probably also mention that i've procured my a bib for the Broad Street Run, and will be exempt from the lottery method of registration.  lottery is an unfair process, and i don't enjoy having my participation rely on chance.  not when my family has been registering for the last 30 years.  i'm running for a charity that i believe in, so it all works out.

I'll be going back to Tortola on the 30th- it's too cold up here for me!  i would have loved to find some good running outside days, and spend time with my running partner, but all that will come in the spring.  in the meantime, it's back to the airport.  where i will likely encounter a Pinkberry, and become all upset when they ask me if i've ever been there before.
