i had two runs today and yesterday that, by my personal standards, i would describe as underwhelming. my energy was present, but my heart was feeling uninspired. i miss my long winding Ocean Drive runs, and late night Bellevue/Coggalshall circuits. i even miss the cold, and my mittens and headband. mostly, i miss my running club, my running buddy, and our winter races and runs together. i'm keeping up my mileage one long, lonely, hot, sweaty treadmill mile at a time, and it's just not the same adventure i know and love.
i picked up a copy of "Eat Right 4 Your Type" on iBooks. obviously the only part which applies to me is the "O" blood group, but I think it was a good decision, and from now on, i'll continue to observe what does and what doesn't work best for my body to see if my performance and energy improve. i must admit i'm skeptical because we Os are the most ancient blood type, and our diet calls for a lot of red meat and no wheat or gluten products whatsoever. i did this before the march marathon- starved my body of carbs for 4 days before i started eating them again before the run. what happened was i went from 120 lbs down to 113, my limbs felt heavy, and i had barely any energy. i'm not trying to lose weight, i'm trying to gain endurance. speaking of which. read this article: it's fantastically inspirational. Strength Climbing
Kristin really has the ability to get inside runners' heads, and form into words many of the emotions that we feel, but always go unspoken. it's true. sometimes our run, or our life sometimes feels like this ridiculous hill that we're just forced to endure, and we really have to dig deep in order to reach the top and triumph. but i'm grateful for these hills. i'm writing this entry from the chart house of the black boat. i'm at the summit, but i haven't forgotten the climb. it's there, within. but i'm a different human afterwards. and i suspect i've still got a few good climbs left to go.
